No way out: Migrants and refugees trapped in Mexico

Imagine what it’s like to survive gang violence and a dangerous journey in search of safety—only to be faced with COVID-19. The United States is using the threat of the coronavirus as yet another excuse to keep out refugees and migrants.

The US has closed its border with Mexico and cut off access to asylum. The US remains the epicenter of the pandemic, yet the government continues to deport people to Latin America and the Caribbean. These policies threaten the health of vulnerable people and risk fueling the spread of disease across the region.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams provide medical aid to migrants and refugees in Mexico and Central America who are struggling to survive. People forced from home desperately need protection and care—not policies that do more harm.
