KABUL, AFGHANISTAN, MARCH 8, 2017—The international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) issued the followed statement today from Renzo Fricke, MSF operations coordinator for Afghanistan:

"Médecins Sans Frontières condemns in the strongest terms the attack against Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan Hospital in Kabul today. Any attack against medical facilities, staff, and patients is unacceptable and constitutes a grave breach of International Humanitarian Law. Hospitals must be safe places for doctors to provide care to wounded and sick people. Everyone has the right to be treated safely, whether they are women, men, children, or wounded combatants. All parties to the conflict in Afghanistan must uphold their responsibilities and ensure that patients, staff, and hospitals are safe from attack."
