As fighting in the Central African Republic (CAR) continues, thousands of refugees who fled the country have arrived in Cameroon, where they lack clean water, decent shelter, and food.
An estimated 35,000 refugees have fled the violence in their country and come to Cameroon since the beginning of 2014.
In Garoua-Boulaï, a small town in eastern Cameroon, thousands of people are living under trees in unacceptable conditions. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is providing emergency medical assistance in Garoua-Boulaï and is also working in the district hospital, providing 800 medical consultations per week. Many of these patients are children; one in five is suffering from malnutrition.
In addition to providing medical care, MSF has also built latrines and showers, and is providing access to clean drinking water.
